Freemasons supporting Bournemouth Food Bank

Bournemouth Food Bank received a donation of £750 from a lodge of Freemasons that has been supporting that charity for the last four years.

Paul Poyntz and Tony Drake from Knole Lodge presented John Saborido with a cheque at the charity’s HQ in Boscombe.

Over the last four years the lodge has donated £3,000 in cash and kind, including toys, knitted items and ornamental garden wheelbarrows.

The foodbank is run in partnership with local churches and is based in St George’s Methodist Church.

It distributes food and essentials to families in the area who otherwise might well go without.

Other lodges support the Bournemouth Food Bank and other local charities doing similar work in their communities.

Paul, who is master of the lodge, said: “It’d been harder than usual to raise money this year, but our members have again stepped up.

“We’ve support the food bank with money, toys and other donations and know how it really help improve the lives of families, particularly at Christmas.

“But the food bank works the whole year helping those in our community who need it.”

John, office manager of the food bank, said: “Knole Lodge are strong supporters of ours and help in practical ways, giving their money and time.

“We receive assistance from other lodges and everything donated makes a real difference to the lives of people in the area.”

Editor’s note:

There are around 9,000 Freemasons in Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and over 250 Lodges.  Although Freemasonry has been an open and transparent organisation for some time, there are still many misconceptions.  Essentially, Freemasonry is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness.  It is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations.
